Red Fox
What license do I need to get a fox and how do I get it (I’m in in America)? Where and how do I get a Red Fox?
I would love the opportunity to own a red fox, despite the drawbacks. And I do know their drawbacks and needs.
….I can tell you that pondfish might have no idea what he’s talking about – I haven’t heard anything like that from the about 22 sources I’ve read from… Red foxes are red foxes: vulpes vulpes. They can come in different color phases, such as silver, marble, cross, cinnamon… but if they’re born red, it’s going to stay as a red phased red fox, and if it’s born white, it’s going to stay white, and be a marble fox. And they’re all vulpes vulpes.
Ok, now, I’m sorry I can’t answer your question – because it depends on which State you live in: in some places all exotics are completely illegal, such as California, in some places they require a permit where you need to have 2 years experience with the animal to obtain it- and even then you have to go through a lot of stuff, and you need to have where you got the 2 years experience written down, and confirmed…such a Minnesota, and there are some places where it’s completely legal, you just have to get the permit that says you meet the minimum requirements for housing and you pay 25$ a year, such as Ohio.
So, it varies – but if you message or e-mail me your state, I could tell you.
If not, you can just call your local DNR and they’ll tell you.
As for where and how… There are breeders [all over] (not really all over – but I just mean scattered across the US), but I can’t think of many off the top of my head, so you’d have to message of e-mail for those too – I could give you about 7 or 8.
