What’s the difference between english and western?
I have a pony, and i’m looking through all the riding questions, and loads are talking about english and western riding. What’s the difference?
I’m from england so does that mean i ride english??
The English Saddle was developed in Europe and refined in England. It’s lighter and developed more for pursuit over forested terrain yet light enough for racing and jumping.
The Western Saddle’s ancestor was originally the saddle the conquestadors rode, then the Mexican Vaquero (Now known as Charro) Saddle with the big round platter type horn made for roping cattle. Originally the Western Saddle was used for riding unbroken wild horses, then once the horse was trained, using the horse and saddle to rope and tie cattle on the long trail drives from Texas to Kansas stock yards in the 1860′s-1870′s.
